Dobsonian Telescopes are totally different now then they were 20 years ago. These days a Dobsonian Telescope can do anything that you may ask of it. With optics guys out there like Carl Zambuto and Steve Kennedy, a Dobsonian Telescope doesn't need to be ten feet off the ground. Today's optics allow a large diameter dobsonian telescope to be a short focal ratio and still give stellar views all the way out to the very edge of the FOV ...maybe even to the edge of the universe!
